Examples of Measurable Policy Statements For the Development of Local Wellness Policies
Example 1:
MEASURABLE: At least 1/2 of the items in the vending machines will contain less than 200 calories and less than 35% sugar.
NON MEASURABLE: All items in the vending machines will contain healthy foods.
Example 2:
MEASURABLE: Students will be provided 30 minutes to be physically active everyday.
NON MEASURABLE: Students will be encouraged to be physically active.
Example 3:
MEASURABLE: Nutrition Education shall be integrated into other subject including but not limited to, math, science, and physical education departments to complement but not replace academic standards based on nutrition education for at least 30 hours per school year.
NON MEASURABLE: Nutrition Education shall be integrated into other subject to complement but not replace academic standards based on nutrition education.
Example 4:
MEASURABLE: School food service directors and staff shall participate in at least 12 hours of professional development opportunities per school year.
NON MEASURABLE: Qualified nutrition professionals shall administer the school meals programs.
Example 5:
MEASURABLE: Physical education staff shall participate in at least 12 hours of professional development opportunities per school year.
NON MEASURABLE: Appropriate professional development shall be provided for physical education staff.
